Yolanda Romero Vallejo

Yolanda Romero Vallejo is an FPU predoctoral researcher in Language and Literature Education at the University of Cádiz (Spain). She holds degrees in Primary Education and English Studies from the University of Granada, where she received an Extraordinary Degree Award in recognition of her academic achievement. She also holds a Master’s degree in Secondary Education Teacher Training from the same university. Her FPU fellowship is funded by Spain’s Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities. Her doctoral research explores how picturebooks and comics can support reading comprehension and literary education in Primary Education, with particular attention to cooperation between schools and public libraries. Her work combines classroom research with the study of how graphic narratives are selected, organised and made accessible to young readers in public and school libraries.

During a research stay at the University of Évora (Portugal), Yolanda studied the children’s and young adult graphic narrative collection at the Public Library of Évora. She is currently undertaking a research stay at Ghent University from September to December 2026. There, she is working with the COMICS research group and Professor Elizabeth Amann, as well as with the Language, Learning and Innovation research group in the Department of Educational Sciences. She is also attending the Comics and Graphic Novels course taught by members of the COMICS group. As part of her stay, she plans to explore the children’s and young adult collections and reading initiatives at De Krook, Ghent’s public library, among other libraries.
